Pleasure Point Community Planning Process Webpage

For the past two years the Santa Cruz County Planning Department has been undertaking the Pleasure Point Community Planning Process, which is now nearing completion.  During this process, the Planning Department and our consultant team from MIG, Inc. have worked with Pleasure Point neighbors to determine how best to shape the future of the Pleasure Point area. The focus has been on identifying and exploring issues related to residential neighborhood character (i.e., house size, scale, design, etc), changes to the residential character (e.g., small bungalows being replaced by larger houses), and appropriate public improvements in the Pleasure Point/26th Avenue area.  A series of 3 facilitated meetings were held as part of the process to get input from the community regarding planning and design issues in the Pleasure Point and 26th Avenue neighborhoods.  The culmination of this process is the Pleasure Point Community Plan, which has recently been released, and the Plan and its appendices are now available in Adobe (.pdf) format by clicking the following link:

Also, there will be an informal drop-in “Open House” poster session regarding the Pleasure Point Community Plan on the evening of Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Simpkins Swim Center (6-8 pm at 979 17th Ave.), where the public is invited to stop by review the Plan and its recommendations, and to ask questions of staff. The Plan, and implementation of its recommendations, will be considered by the County Board of Supervisors on the afternoon of August 19, 2008 (1:30 pm at the Board Chambers, in the County Building, 701 Ocean St., 5th Floor).  If you have any questions about the Plan or the planning process, feel free to contact Frank Barron of the County Planning Department at (831) 454-2530 or at frank.barron@co.santa-cruz.ca.us.

NOTE: The recently approved East Cliff Drive Stabilization and Parkway Project (i.e., the seawall project) was not addressed as part of this process, as it was dealt with in a separate process led by the County Redevelopment Agency. Similarly, issues relating the commercial uses in the neighborhood have been addressed in prior planning efforts led by the Redevelopment Agency, so the emphasis of this planning process has been on design issues pertaining to Pleasure Point’s residential areas and on other community infrastructure (i.e., traffic circulation, drainage improvements, sidewalks, parks, etc.).
